Once a year, up until 1978, Sai Baba would materialize a lingham (like the one in photograph 11, but not gold) in a rather unique way. This would occur during MahaShivarathri, the night dedicated to Shiva, the destroyer of illusion. Sai Baba would materialize a lingham (often called a Shiva Lingham) out of his mouth.

One could watch Sai Baba as if he were giving birth to something. The lingham would appear to rise up his esophagus, and then would erupt out of his mouth. On occasion, the sides of Sai Baba's mouth would tear and bleed because the lingham was larger than his mouth.
